In our experience, roughly 50% of customers who called within the first two weeks wondering if they made the right choice ended up absolutely loving their mattress after a full month. The mattress wasn't the problem. Their body just needed time to settle in.

Tips for Breaking In Your New Mattress

Getting the most out of your new bed starts with a few simple habits. These might sound a little quirky, but trust us, they make a real difference.

1. Walk it in (seriously): This one surprises people, but it works: take your shoes off and walk slowly across the entire surface of your new mattress for three to five minutes. This helps the quilt layer stretch out and allows the comfort foams to decompress, so your body can sink in properly when you sleep.

2. Rotate after two weeks: Couples tend to break in their sides of the mattress at different rates. Solo sleepers often gravitate toward one spot. Rotating the mattress 180° after the first two weeks helps it break in evenly and extends its life.

3. Make sure your sheets fit: A fitted sheet that's too shallow for your new mattress can act like a compression layer, pulling the mattress taut and making the whole bed feel firmer than it is. Make sure your sheets and protector have enough depth to fit without stretching.

4. Think about your whole sleep system, especially if you sleep hot: We hand-select mattresses that have been independently tested for temperature regulation. That said, if you're sleeping warm, the mattress itself is rarely the culprit. Your mattress protector, sheets, and comforter all work together as a system.

Side sleepers and back sleepers have very different pillow needs, and the depth of your shoulder matters more than most people realize. 6. New mattress smell? Totally normal: Like a new car or freshly installed carpet, a new mattress can have a slight smell when it's first unpacked. This is normal and not harmful. The smell typically comes from the packaging itself and dissipates quickly with a little airflow.

7. A great mattress supports you, but it's not a medical fix: A properly fitted mattress can do a lot: reduce pressure points, improve spinal alignment, and help with the aches and pains that come from everyday Colorado living. What it can't do is resolve chronic or pre-existing conditions that require medical care. How long do I have to try my new mattress before I can exchange it?

You need to sleep on it for a minimum of 30 nights before initiating an exchange or return. We know that might feel like a long time when you're uncomfortable, but your body genuinely needs that adjustment window. Most people who push through those first few weeks are glad they did.

Do I really need a mattress protector?

Yes. An approved waterproof mattress protector is required to qualify for our 120-night guarantee. It also protects your manufacturer warranty. We sell DreamFit DreamCool protectors in-store and are happy to help you find the right size and fit.

What if I bought my mattress on sale? Will I get the same deal on an exchange?

Your exchange will be priced at whatever promotion is currently running at the time of your exchange. We can't guarantee the same discount will still be in effect, so we encourage you to take full advantage of any active offers when you buy.

Is there a fee to return my mattress?

If you'd like a refund rather than an exchange and there's nothing in our store that feels like the right fit, we can pick up the mattress and issue a refund after 30 nights (minus a $200 pickup fee). First exchanges carry no restocking fee. Second exchanges carry a 20% restocking fee.

What if I need a second exchange?

We've got you. A second exchange is available with a 20% restocking fee. After a second exchange, we're no longer able to offer additional returns or exchanges on that mattress purchase.

Can I return opened accessories like pillows or sheets?

Unfortunately, no. Once opened, accessories, including pillows, sheets, mattress protectors, toppers, and comforters, cannot be returned or exchanged. Unopened accessories are eligible for return or exchange.

My new mattress has a smell. Is that normal?

Completely normal. Like a new car or new carpet, a new mattress can have a slight odor when first unpacked. It's not harmful. The foams we carry are CertiPUR-US® or GREENGUARD Gold certified, meaning they've been tested to be free of harmful materials. Open a window, let it breathe, and it'll clear up quickly.

Do I need a new pillow with my new mattress?

Possibly! When your mattress changes how your shoulders and neck are supported, your pillow needs can shift too. If things still feel a little off after a few weeks, come in and let us take a look. It might be a pillow situation, not a mattress situation.

Does the guarantee apply to floor models or clearance mattresses?

The 120-night guarantee applies to new mattress purchases only. Floor models, clearance items, and previously exchanged mattresses are not eligible.

Do you haul away my old mattress?

Yes! Free haul-away is included with every new mattress delivery within 50 miles of our store, on a one-for-one basis. Buying two mattresses? We'll haul away two. It's that simple.
