Mattresses for Stomach Sleepers — Expert-Fitted in Denver
Stomach sleeping is the most demanding position for your spine, and most mattresses are not built for it. The wrong bed puts your lower back into extension, your neck into rotation, and leaves you waking up stiff every morning.
Every mattress in this collection was hand-selected by our owners, Phil and Josh, specifically for stomach sleepers. Firm enough to prevent hip sinkage. Supportive enough to keep your spine neutral. Breathable enough to handle the extra surface contact that comes with sleeping face-down.
Stop guessing. Come feel the difference in person.

Why Stomach Sleeping Is the Hardest Position to Get Right
Stomach sleeping puts more mechanical stress on your spine than any other sleep position. When you sleep face-down, your lower back arches into extension and your neck rotates to one side for hours at a time. If your mattress is too soft, your hips sink below your shoulders, and that hyperextension gets worse, not better.
Most mass-market mattresses are built for back and side sleepers. Stomach sleepers are the most underserved sleep type in the industry, and the wrong mattress does not just cause discomfort. Over time, it causes real pain.
The right mattress keeps your hips level with your shoulders, your lumbar supported without pressure, and your neck in the most neutral position possible. That is what this collection is built around.

Is a Firmer Mattress Always Better for Stomach Sleepers?
This is one of the most common questions we get, and the answer is: not necessarily.
Firmness alone does not fix spinal alignment. For stomach sleepers, the goal is a mattress that prevents the hips from sinking below the shoulder line while still allowing some surface give at the chest and pelvis. Too soft, and your lower back hyperextends. Too firm, and you create pressure points at the hips and ribcage that disrupt sleep just as much.
The right firmness for a stomach sleeper also depends on body type. A lighter stomach sleeper on an extra-firm mattress may actually experience more misalignment than on a medium-firm, because their hips do not need as much resistance to stay level. A heavier stomach sleeper needs a stronger support core to prevent sinkage over time.
This is exactly why guessing from a spec sheet does not work. In our showroom, we fit you based on your body type, your sleep position, and how your spine actually aligns on each mattress, not a firmness number.
The Best Mattress Types for Stomach Sleepers
Not all mattress constructions work equally well for stomach sleepers. Here is what we recommend and why.
Natural Latex
Natural latex is one of the best materials for stomach sleepers. It is responsive and buoyant, meaning it pushes back against your body rather than letting you sink in. It maintains a consistent surface level that keeps the hips supported without creating rigidity. It is also naturally breathable, which matters more for stomach sleepers than any other position, since more of your body surface is in direct contact with the mattress. Our latex options are made from the sap of rubber trees, free of synthetic chemicals, and built to last well over a decade.
Hybrid Mattresses
Quality hybrids combine a coil support core with a comfort layer on top. For stomach sleepers, the coil core does the heavy lifting. It prevents hip sinkage and maintains structural integrity over time. The comfort layer softens the surface feel without compromising the underlying support. Hybrids are a strong choice for stomach sleepers who want the benefits of support without the feeling of sleeping on a completely rigid surface.
A Word on Memory Foam
Traditional memory foam is generally not ideal for stomach sleepers. Its defining characteristic, deep contouring and slow response, is exactly what causes problems for this sleep position. Memory foam allows the hips to sink, which is the last thing a stomach sleeper needs. If memory foam is your preference, the construction and density of the foam matters significantly. We only carry memory foam mattresses with support cores strong enough to counteract that sinkage. Nothing here is standard mass-market foam.
What If You Switch Between Stomach and Side?
Many stomach sleepers are actually combination sleepers, shifting to their side at some point during the night. This is one of the more complex fitting scenarios we see in the store, because each position has different requirements.
Side sleeping needs more give at the hip and shoulder to relieve pressure. Stomach sleeping needs firmer underlying support to prevent sinkage. A mattress that serves both positions well typically lands in the medium-firm range with a responsive comfort layer, one that adapts to position changes without bottoming out.
This is exactly why the in-store testing process matters. We can watch how your spine aligns in both positions and find the mattress that handles the transition without compromising either.

Mattresses for Hot Sleepers
Stomach Sleepers Run Hot — Here's Why It Matters
Stomach sleepers have more body surface area in direct contact with the mattress than any other sleep position. That means heat retention is a bigger issue for this group, and materials matter more than most cooling technology marketing will tell you.
Most cooling claims in the mattress industry are branding, not function. Cheap gel beads added to the top layer of a memory foam mattress do very little at scale. What actually works is breathable construction: open-coil hybrids, natural latex, and materials that allow airflow rather than trapping it.
Every mattress in this collection has been selected with breathability as a priority. If you are a stomach sleeper who also runs hot, we can narrow your options quickly.

Mattresses for Back Pain
Stomach Sleepers With Back Pain — You Do Not Have to Wake Up Stiff
If you are waking up with lower back or neck pain and you sleep on your stomach, the mattress is almost certainly contributing. The position itself creates the conditions for strain, and the wrong mattress amplifies every one of them.
The right mattress eliminates the root cause by keeping your spine in neutral alignment throughout the night. For stomach sleepers dealing with existing lower back conditions, neck issues, or recovering from injury, we often recommend pairing a supportive mattress with an adjustable base, which allows you to slightly elevate the upper body and take pressure off the lumbar region.
We have helped customers with serious back conditions, post-surgical recovery, and years of chronic morning pain find significant relief simply by getting properly fitted to the right mattress. It is not a guarantee, but it is a starting point, and the right bed absolutely has to be part of the equation.

Frequently Asked Questions — Mattresses for Stomach Sleepers
What is the best type of mattress for stomach sleepers?
Natural latex and quality hybrid mattresses are generally the strongest options. Both provide the responsive, supportive surface stomach sleepers need to keep the hips level and the spine neutral, without the deep sinkage that causes problems.
Is a firm mattress always better for stomach sleepers?
Not necessarily. The goal is neutral spinal alignment, not maximum firmness. The right firmness depends on your body type and BMI. Too firm creates pressure at the hips and ribcage. Too soft lets the hips sink into hyperextension. We fit you based on your specific needs in the store.
Can stomach sleepers use memory foam?
Traditional memory foam is generally not a good fit for stomach sleepers because of how much it allows the body to sink. If memory foam is preferred, the support core density matters significantly. Every memory foam option we carry is selected with that in mind.
What if I switch between stomach and side sleeping?
Combination sleepers need a mattress that handles both positions well, typically a medium-firm with a responsive comfort layer that adapts without bottoming out. We can fit you for this in the showroom.
Do you deliver mattresses in Denver?
Yes. Free delivery and free haul-away of your old mattress within 50 miles of our Denver showroom.
Can I try stomach sleeper mattresses in your store?
Absolutely. Our showroom is built for this, extended and pressure-free mattress testing where you can actually lie in the position you sleep in and feel what works. That is the only way to know.
